What we treat…
Whether your injury happened in the gym, in the garden, at work or on the sports field, physiotherapy will help to get you back on track. Lesley enjoys the challenge of both new and old injuries - especially if they don’t seem to fit a typical injury pattern! Below are just a few examples of the injuries and conditions we can treat:
-
Muscle injuries can take anywhere from a few days to a few months to fully recover. Restoring function while decreasing pain is our goal and we use a wide variety of manual therapy, massage and exercise prescription to help speed recovery.
-
Pain associated with joints and ligaments can come from acute injuries or more long standing conditions such as arthritis. An accurate diagnosis is the key to rehab and that’s our first goal of treatment!
-
Lower back pain is the leading cause of disability in New Zealand. Most of us have had a back injury at some point, closely followed by neck pain.
Lesley loves treating spinal pain and injuries as uses her training in Clinical Pilates and Yoga to help restore movement and function. She knows the importance of having a strong and functioning core due to our special focus on Pelvic Health. She believes education, exercises and movement are the key to helping you manage your back pain.
-
Our number one goal is to get you back to what you love as soon as possible - whether it’s back on the netball court, rugby pitch, squash court, horse riding, HIIT, or out walking the dog.
Lesley has years of experience working alongside rugby teams (including the amazing Hakwe’s Bay Tui’s!), and is working towards her Personal Training Certificates Level 3 & 4 to give you an individualised sport specific treatment plan.
We know how tough it is to rest from your favourite sport so we will work with you to keep you active while looking after your injury.

Pain around the pelvis, at the front back or sides is truly a pain in the a$$!
It makes sitting, standing, walking, getting dressed, and even going to the toilet difficult and painful. There are lots of muscles, ligaments and connective tissue that can contribute to pelvic girdle pain, so let us figure out the cause and get you back to what you love!
-
Did you know the most common reason for pelvic pain during pregnancy is hormones? Lesley completes a thorough assessment to determine to cause and uses a mixture of manual therapy, massage, support garments, movement and exercise to help alleviate the discomfort that pregnancy brings.
-
A strategy to start the rehabilitation process before surgery.
The aim of pre-hab is to improve functional ability prior to having surgery. This will enable you to recover from surgery quicker and your body will better able withstand any post operative inactivity. Most surgeons will recommend pre-hab exercise and strengthening to maximise your post-operative recovery.
-
Fro injuries sustained on the job to repetitive use conditions, it is important to get back to work. As a self-employed small business owner, Lesley really gets the importance of getting back to work as soon as possible.
Depending on your employer, we can work with them to provide return to work plans to make the transition from injury to work as smooth as possible.
-
Pain that's been around for a long time changes the physiology of the body and brain making pain harder to treat. The are a number of rehab approaches to chronic pain - education, movement and understanding are Lesley's top 3…she might just have an answer…

We work alongside Active+ to provide different ACC contracts including Stay at work, Back to work and Persistent Pain contracts
How we treat it…
We are always striving to learn about and use the most up-to-date evidence based treatment in our practice. We believe you must treat the body and mind together to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. We use a combination of the following treatment options in our general physiotherapy practice to help heal the body and mind. All treatment options will be explained in detail so you know exactly what to expect.

Patients with joint stiffness and muscle tension can benefit from manual therapy.
Manual therapy is a “hands on” treatment approach used to decrease pain and improve the mobility of joints, soft tissues and nerves. Over many years of experience we have developed highly skilled manual therapy techniques.
Research tells us that manual therapy combined with exercise prescription can lead to a faster recovery.

Dry needling is an effective treatment to relieve discomfort, improve flexibility, and reduce nerve pain. It is specifically intended to target and restore normal muscle function.
What is dry needling?
Dry Needling involves the insertion of filament needles into a myofascial trigger point. It is referred to as ‘Dry’ because it does not involve the injection of liquid. Dry needling can he used in conjunction with other techniques for pain relief. It can also promote healing and restore normal tissue function.

Clinical Pilates takes into account an individuals injury or condition. The exercises are then tailored to fit each person. Clinical Pilates has been shown to be a positive treatment option for lower back conditions, neck pain, recovery from abdominal surgery and pelvic floor conditions.

We all know how important core strengthening is for everything in the body. Lesley has completed courses in core strengthening and tummy separation, and draw on their Pilates and Yoga experience to strengthen from the inside out.

Breathing affects most systems in the body. Most of us only breathe into the upper part of our chest, which is such a waste of lung space!
Breathing more efficiently helps:
decrease effects of stress in the body - switching from sympathetic to parasympathetic system
decrease pain perception
improves efficiency of pelvic floor and core especially with regards to pelvic floor dysfunction
reduces the physical effects of anxiety and depression
We have many ways to help you learn to breathe better!

Motion is Lotion!!
Exercises is good for the body, mind and soul! It’s the bread and butter of being a physio, using exercise and movement to restore strength, flexibility and function to the body after injury or illness.
Lesley has extensive knowledge and experience in using movement to rehabilitate injuries, as well as prescribing cardiovascular programmes.
-
Strapping is another common treatment technique we use in the clinic. Some of the aims of strapping are to relieve your pain, support the injury, reduce swelling, correct biomechanics and improve posture. Strapping can also be used to protect a joint and reduce injury recurrence.
-
We believe every patient should know what is happening inside their own body, their treatment options and have realistic goals. Education is the core of your treatment so you can make better informed choices about your health and well being.
Knowledge is Power!
