Complex conditions such as chronic pain (both pelvic pain and elsewhere in the body), endometriosis, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, sexual pain require a significant history taking and assessment. Often this is completed over 1-2 appointments to allow us to get a clear picture of what the issues are and to form a suitable individual treatment plan.

For pelvic and woman’s health, a vaginal exam is often indicated (only with your informed consent). Depending on your diagnosis, this may or may not happen during the initial appointment.

We want to give you as much information as we can on your condition: treatment time frames and options, self-management tools.

The number of follow up appointments required really depends on your symptom’s/condition’s. They are usually spread out over several months, rather than weekly visits.

For your initial appointment, especially if you are travelling from outside of Ashburton, please consider a 45 min online/video call as your first appointment. The initial appointment is exactly the same as a face-to-face/in-clinic appointment: we take a detailed medical and symptom history. Most patients will need to do some homework, keep a symptom diary or even see their GP before the second visit. You can do this before coming to an in-person appointment and save yourself some travel and money!

  • If you have had a baby since 1st October 2023, ACC now covers some birthing injuries. These include:

    • pelvic organ prolapse

    • perineal tears (NOT episiotomies)

    • anal sphincter tears

    • levator avulsions

Caesarean sections are not covered under ACC.

We can complete an ACC form for you in clinic, you do not have to have your claim registered before making an appointment. You are welcome to make an appointment any time after labour - especially if you have any questions or concerns. Depending on your injury, we may not be able to complete a vaginal exam prior to 6 weeks post birth, however we can complete an assessment and give you advice on the early recovery stages.

If you have injured your body during labour e.g. back pain, hip injury, these may be covered under a Musculoskeletal ACC claim. Please note there are different co-payments for these claims.

if in doubt, please make an appointment and we can discuss your options. If you are not covered under ACC, your appointment will be charged as a Post-Natal WoF.

Lesley has limited availability on Monday’s 9.30am - 2pm, Wednesday and Thursday 3.30pm-4.30pm for online appointments. You can have your initial assessment online much sooner than an in-person appointment and save yourself some travel and money!

Please note: when making an appointment you are agreeing to our 24 hour Cancelation Policy.
